Dental Care
Dental disease is very common in pets and can vary in severity from mild to moderate to severe. Left unmanaged, poor dentition can be extremely painful, lead to infections and have a detrimental impact on the overall health of your pet. At North Woodbridge Veterinary Hospital, we pride ourselves in offering our patients a high level of dental care, which includes digital dental x-rays, ultrasonic scaling and polishing.
In addition to the dental care offered on site, we work with our clients to educate them on the best at-home options they can use to help prevent the development and progression of dental disease in their pets.
In-House Pharmacy
North Woodbridge Veterinary Hospital’s in-house pharmacy offers a wide range of pharmaceuticals and supplements to meet your pets’ needs. If your pet requires medication, our health care team will provide guidance on the administration and benefit of each type of medication dispensed.
To help facilitate the administration of medication to pets that are more difficult to medicate, we work with a compounding pharmacy to have the medication prepared in a more convenient form such as liquid, flavoured chewable treats, or gels you can apply to the skin.
Examinations & Prevention
Preventive medicine continues to be a vital part of veterinary health care. If discovered early, many problems are more easily treated with better outcomes.
To help maintain the health of your pet, we recommend annual physical examinations. This gives us the opportunity to assess their health and potentially diagnose and treat various diseases and medical conditions early.
During the annual health exam appointment we will address any health or behavioural concerns you may have, as well as discuss recommended vaccines and parasite prevention which may include fleas, ticks, intestinal parasites and heartworm. We will review with you the benefits of an annual blood test for the purpose of early disease-detection, or monitoring any health conditions that are being managed at home.
At North Woodbridge Veterinary Hospital we feel you are an integral part of the health care plan for your pet and we recognize that the needs and lifestyle of each pet varies. As such, we work with you and your family to offer preventive health care options that are best suited for your pet.
Pain Management
At North Woodbridge Veterinary Hospital we make it our top priority to minimize any pain or discomfort your pet may be experiencing.
Pain may be acute or chronic, and not all pets exhibit pain in the same way. If pain is present, suspected or anticipated we will help you recognize the signs, and treat when appropriate to minimize your pets’ discomfort. With more chronic conditions, we work with you to formulate the best plan to minimize any pain in your pet and maximize their quality of life.
All patients having elective or non-elective surgery at our clinic will receive the appropriate pain management before during and after a procedure.
Nutritional Counselling
The team at North Woodbridge Veterinary Hospital feels your pet’s nutrition is an essential part of their overall well being.
Our staff will work with you to educate you on the ideal diet options to best suit the needs of your pet. Our goal is to ensure our patients are receiving the correct nutritional requirements based on their breed, stage of life and activity level. We also offer veterinary specialty diets designed to manage a variety of health conditions, such as kidney disease, arthritis, diabetes, dental disease, allergies, digestive disturbances and obesity.
Digital Radiology (X-Rays)
Digital x-rays are offered on-site. The x-ray images obtained provide valuable information about your pet’s heart, lungs, bones and abdominal organs, which may help identify an underling illness. In most instances we are able to interpret the findings at the time of your visit and are pleased to review the x-ray images with you. Our hospital is also associated with a board certified radiologist.
Laboratory Testing
Laboratory testing provides valuable information about possible underlying illnesses, as well as early detection of diseases.
We offer a wide range of tests including, but not limited to, blood work, urinalysis, and fecal testing. For the majority of the lab work we recommend for your pet, samples are collected on-site and sent for analysis to an external laboratory with which we are associated. The laboratory has highly trained staff including specialists, stringent quality control practices and state of the art equipment.
We will review all results with you once the lab work has been completed.
Surgery
We offer full surgical services for common elective and non-elective procedures for cats and dogs. Our team takes exceptional care to ensure the safety of your pet. All of our patients under going general anaesthetic are monitored carefully throughout their procedures and recovery.
We will address any questions or concerns you may have about the surgery, including concerns about anaesthesia, pain and postoperative care. We strive to ensure a safe and complete recovery for your pet while working to make the experience as stress-free as possible.
Referrals
Occasionally, more complex medical, surgical or behavioural problems may occur where your pet may benefit from a consult with a board certified veterinary specialist. In the GTA we are fortunate to have several veterinary emergency and referral centers. Referrals to one of these facilities can readily be arranged when appropriate.
